January 2003
In January John built a container bed for the back balcony. This is used for raising seedling, until such time as a
more permanent hot house and propagation area is established (photo 1)
We also established a grey water system using the water from the shower and washing machine. The grey water
pipe runs directly into the middle garden bed, around the lemon tree and around the pond. Once this grey water system
was established I changed the products being used in the shower and washing machine to 'enviroClean'
In photo 2 the intended the area below the balcony, has been completed. This area will eventually be a recreational
area in the back yard. The bed designed for the chook tractor, on the south side of the back yard, and the permanent
bed on the south side of the fence were also established in January. Scraps of wood found in the yard, were used
on the south fence bed. Introduced soil and horse manure was used for both of these beds, as well as 'home made' compost.
During January we experienced the rewards of our first intensive spring/summer crops. This included zucchinis,
corn, tomatoes, peas, beans, lettuce, pumpkin, peaches, strawberries and raspberries. The two produce photos show
the beds towards the end of January 2003
