During summer the spring crops were producing most of our daily food, and a great deal of time was spent picking and preserving these

crops.  Very little construction or design work was completed in the back yard during this period, other than the starting of a raised bed

behind the garden shed and water tank. Photo 1. This area does not get a great deal of sun, so what is suitable for growing in this area

will be limited.  To make the bed we created a compost mix of garden waste, weeds, lawn clippings and horse manure.

In the driveway area John planted a mixture of maize. The maize, when picked, made a nice looking table decoration, in photo three with Horace.
